MW2, Skate 3, and Minecraft in One EXE: chasmlol's Rust Mashup

The creator of SkyCraft built a Rust Modern Warfare 2 rewrite that drops Skate 3 physics onto any map and turns bullets into Minecraft block-breakers.

Developer chasmlol, creator of the Skyrim-meets-Minecraft bridge SkyCraft, has open-sourced 2010-rust-rewrite-mashup. Built on an iw4L Rust rewrite of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), it merges MW2 weapons, Skate 3 physics, and a destructible Minecraft world into one executable. This write-up relies on the repository documentation rather than a local playtest.

Where SkyCraft runs two separate games at once over shared memory, this project compiles one standalone host binary (iw4l.exe). At startup, the executable asks for your local game folders, reads the proprietary formats directly from disk, and runs all three rulesets inside one loop.

Press J on any Modern Warfare 2 map to drop onto a skateboard with full Skate 3 trick and grind collision.

What works inside the mashup

The repository README breaks the crossover into three interlocking layers that share collision and damage math:

  • Modern Warfare 2 base (iw4L): Classic multiplayer maps, killstreaks, custom HUD, and weapons including the Intervention, SPAS-12, and UMP45.
  • Skate 3 mode: Pressing J on any map spawns a skateboard and switches movement to Skate 3 physics, flips, and grinds across both MW2 geometry and voxel terrain.
  • Minecraft world and combat: Selecting the Minecraft map loads procedural terrain with a day-night cycle, dynamic weapon lighting, and passive and hostile mobs that fight back.
  • Cross-game destruction: Shooting blocks damages them based on weapon caliber, range, and block hardness. Destroyed blocks drop collectible items into an MW2-styled hotbar, and frag grenades detonate blocks like TNT.

Three ways to touch the same meme

Before this repository landed on GitHub, most players encountered the combination through viral clips, the Skate Warfare stub on the Melty launcher, or the clean-room browser tribute Kickflip Ops inside GameMash. Each path trades setup friction against authenticity:

How to set it up

Like ER Mario and Leon in the Lands Between, the GitHub release ships no commercial game assets. You supply the originals at first boot.

If you own 2009 Modern Warfare 2 on Steam and want to test the full Rust build, start at our 2010 Rust Rewrite Mashup catalog card or grab the release directly from chasmlol's GitHub repository. If you just want five minutes of kickflips with a rifle hotbar in a browser tab, open GameMash instead.
