Ace Combat 8 in VR: No Official VR, So UEVR Flew In

Bandai Namco shipped Wings of Theve for flat monitors and ACE COMBAT ONLINE—not a headset build. Within days, UEVR profiles, HUD Lua fixes, and Japanese setup guides put players in the in-game cockpit anyway.

ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE has no VR mode; Bandai Namco sells it for monitors on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The flat game still offers a first-person cockpit camera—Xbox Wire's AC8 feature and Bandai Namco's own copy ("Step into the cockpit") describe that view—but not a headset build. The page also foregrounds ACE COMBAT ONLINE, the franchise's largest cross-play multiplayer mode in Early Access. The fantasy players keep filming anyway: sit inside the jet, head-track the canopy, and treat the campaign skybox like yours.

Ace Combat brand director Kazutoki Kono told GamesRadar (Jan 5, 2026) that Project Aces chose not to ship VR because a great flat-screen flight game and a great VR game are "separate entities." That is the official line this post is working around.

That is the same flat Unreal game + injector thesis this site keeps returning to, except the IP is fresh and the anti-cheat is live. Community answer: UEVR (praydog's Unreal injector; docs at docs.uevr.io) plus shared configs, a separate HUD script, and an explicit choice to play offline after bypassing Easy Anti-Cheat. I have not installed AC8 in VR for this article; everything below is primary documentation and credited videos, not a flight test.

@TGAMEtanuchikin posted cockpit UEVR replay footage on Oct 14 with the hashtag #ACECOMBAT8—what he writes is his first SU-57 flight, replay camera and all. Public metrics on X showed about 10k views and ~100 likes when we checked Oct 15, 2026. The clip is creator gameplay, not ours.

What works in October 2026

Bare UEVR injection can put stereo on a UE5 aerial game, but Ace Combat lives on its HUD: speed, altitude, weapons, the center stack. Early injects left pilots flying blind until community HUD work landed—VTFLAB's profile README documents the missing green flight HUD problem and the fix. Two layers show up in public guides this week:

LayerWhat it doesPrimary source

ac8_ui_fix.luaSeparate Lua HUD fix; not bundled with the zipWiki: from lovezzzxxx's repository; install beside imported config

The wiki's UEVR HUD Profile entry (checked Oct 15, 2026) states the profile needs UEVR nightly 01143+, Extreme Compatibility Mode off, and the separate ac8_ui_fix.lua. Author notes: Windows 11, RX 6700 XT, Virtual Desktop; offline only; export your existing UEVR config before importing AceCombat8.zip, then follow the author's offline OpenXR steps. Rollback: stop injection and restore the exported profile.

Paradise Decay's recent pair on YouTube is the English-language spine—setup plus HUD/performance tweaks:

Ogaki_Doe's Japanese walkthrough (first published Oct 5; updates Oct 12 for a UI size bugfix and Oct 14 pointing readers at mankeroo's config thread) documents the Steam PC path many players are actually using: UEVR nightly, a downloaded config zip, Import Config in the injector, and launching outside Easy Anti-Cheat so injection can attach. Credits on the note thank ponos0393, herbertfan, Paradise Decay, Gemini君, and others; references also point readers to the Flat2VR Discord. The disclaimer is blunt: VR is at your own risk, and because EAC is disabled, connecting online may risk a ban—「EACを無効化するためオンラインに接続するとBANされる恐れがあります」 ("Because EAC is disabled, there is a risk of being banned if you connect online").

EAC, Steam, and why "offline only" is not optional

Bandai Namco's official game page foregrounds ACE COMBAT ONLINE multiplayer Early Access. UEVR can't inject while Easy Anti-Cheat is running, so every guide we found launches the game outside EAC. That breaks Bandai Namco's intended setup and may violate its terms, and both the guide author and VTFLAB warn that a ban can't be ruled out. We're not reproducing the steps. If you go further, stay in offline campaign play, don't modify EAC files, and launch normally through Steam before going online, as VTFLAB instructs.

Treat campaign and solo modes as the only ethical testbed. Do not carry an injected, EAC-bypassed executable into ranked multiplayer and act surprised when a ban hammer appears. The wiki mod page and VTFLAB repo both label the HUD profile offline only. We are not lawyers; we are repeating what creators and the Japanese guide already warn.

Honest limits (we have not flown it)

  • Input. UEVR can add head tracking and stereo; it does not turn Ace Combat into a motion-controller sim. Pad, keyboard, or HOTAS remain the realistic inputs—same category as other injector stories in New Eyes on Old Worlds, not a native VR SKU.

  • Performance. Paradise Decay's second video covers HUD fixes and performance tuning. Expect to tune rendering mode, UI scale (Ogaki_Doe's Oct 12 UI size fix), and headset resolution.
  • Moving targets. Profiles, nightlies, and Lua scripts are updating weekly—mankeroo's config pointer on Oct 14 is the kind of detail that ages fast. Read the wiki date stamp and the note's update log before you chase a zip from a random mirror.
  • Publisher stance. Bandai Namco's AC8 page has no VR mode; Kono's GamesRadar interview (linked above) is the on-record reason Project Aces skipped headset support.

Why this belongs on Game Mashups

This is not Mario in the Lands Between. It is still a creative mod: one shipped game, one viewpoint the developer did not sell as VR. The tooling is general—UEVR on Unreal—and the finish work is community profiles the way Hogwarts Legacy's UEVR profiles are community finish work, just with a fresher anti-cheat cliff. Japanese players filming SU-57 cockpits on X and English YouTubers publishing HUD-fix chapters in the same week is what "trending" looks like for injectors: not a store page, but a thousand cockpits anyway.

Bring your own game, read the ban warning, export your injector config, and assume the next patch breaks something—the same bargain as every other flat-to-VR story we cover, just louder because the jets are new.
